Learn To Ride

Update for the 2021 Learn To Ride Program!

May 2021:

First and foremost, thank you for your patience. The Learn To Ride team has been working diligently on building the rider program to offer to you through the end of June 2021. As mentioned last month, we will not be able to start our free licensing rider training until July since we do not have a contract with PennDOT until then. We are now able to offer the Motorcycle Safety Foundation’s Basic Rider Course along with a few other training options.

Please understand that our MSF Basic Rider Courses have very limited seating available but we are continuing to work on building more options.

Again, your patience is greatly appreciated; and as we move forward through the season, Danielle will continue to provide you updates on the paid riding course options as well as the free licensing courses. Please feel free to reach out to Danielle with any additional questions or comments. Her contact information is below

March 2021:

It was stated back in January 2021 that we would not be able to start our free licensing rider training until after June 30, 2021 due to a freeze on new 2021 contracts and that has not changed; but that did not stop us from moving forward to be able to provide you with rider training from mid-April through the end of June. We will be offering the Motorcycle Safety Foundation’s Beginner Riding Course which is a 16-hour program for new riders and includes both classroom and riding sessions, and training bikes will be provided. Since the training program is not under contract with PennDOT, we will be charging a tuition fee and we are unable to provide you with a motorcycle license onsite. Students that successfully complete the training program will have an opportunity to take the motorcycle skills test at a DMV to get their motorcycle license on one of our training bikes.

In addition to the Beginner Riding Course, we will also offer the following:

  • One-on-One Coaching and Intro to Riding

  • Additional Prep for DMV Test

  • Training Bike Rental for DMV Test

  • One Hour of Coaching for DMV Test + Training Bike Rental

With all of that being said, we will open registration for our April – June classes in just a few weeks. I’ll be sending out another email communication to inform you of that specific date and how the process will look. In the meantime, please make sure that you are ready for registration by having or getting a valid PA Motorcycle Permit. Thank you for your patience and I look forward to helping you get enrolled in a training course at Classic Harley-Davidson.

January 2021:

“As we approached the end of 2020 we were excited to find out that our free licensing rider program was approved by PennDOT, and Classic Harley-Davidson would begin training in the spring of 2021.

Shortly thereafter, it was brought to our attention that the 2021 contracts fell under protest and PennDOT had frozen them until June 30, 2021.

Due to these circumstances which are out of our control, Classic Harley-Davidson will not be able to start the new program until that time. We are very sorry for the inconvenience and we are working diligently on alternatives in the meantime.”

Happy Riding,

Danielle Bauder
